Replacing a Failed Incisor with a Dental Implant

When Tooth Loss Happens, We’re Here to Restore Your Smile

Replacing a missing tooth is about more than aesthetics; it’s about restoring function and confidence.

The Challenge: A Failed Central Incisor
The patient presented with a failing central incisor that required extraction. The central incisor plays a critical role in both appearance and function, making its replacement vital.

The Treatment Approach
A staged approach was used to ensure optimal results:

  • Tooth Extraction and Healing: The tooth was extracted, and a healing period of 8 weeks was observed.
  • Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) and Soft Tissue Grafting: To prepare the site for the implant, GBR and soft tissue grafting were carried out to enhance bone and gum volume.
  • Implant Placement: A dental implant was placed, mimicking the natural tooth root.
  • Final Restoration: After 6 months, the definitive implant crown was placed, achieving a seamless blend with the adjacent teeth.

Addressing the Papilla Concern
Although the mesial papilla hasn’t fully regenerated, the following options were considered:

  • Illusional Papilla Development: The palatal tissues may provide visual coverage over time.
  • Prosthetic Adjustment: A composite buildup on the adjacent tooth (UL1) could reduce the bone-to-contact point distance to <5mm.

However, the patient chose to retain the slight diastema, which adds a unique, natural charm to their smile.

Why Choose a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth because they:

  • Mimic the look and feel of natural teeth.
  • Preserve bone and gum health.
  • Offer long-lasting durability and functionality.
